ENDLESS DESIGN POSSIBILITIES

In Latin "membrana" means "skin” or “parchment". In architecture and construction, membranes refer to façade or roof skins, which are made from mechanically or pneumatically pre-stressed textile fabrics or foils. To help you navigate our website, we use membrane architecture, textile architecture, textile construction, lightweight construction and tensile fabric structures synonymously.

Rapid developments in high-performance materials are revolutionising membrane architecture around the world.

MEMBRANE MATERIALS

The most commonly used materials include PVC-coated polyester fabrics, PTFE-coated glass fabrics and ETFE foils. Enhanced coatings and materials are available for specific applications. Membranes combine weather protection and static structural support which interacts with the secondary supporting structure. As the membrane itself is a thin material, it is ideal for projects where the architectural intent is to create sophisticated and filigree load bearing structures.
