Recognition award from German Engineering Awards 2018

Temme // Obermeier project receives recognition award from the prestigious German Engineering Awards 2018 (Deutschen Ingenieurbaupreis 2018)!

On June 13, 2018, the jury of Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) announced that the refurbishment of the Chemnitz Central Station is to receive a recognition award at the upcoming ceremony.

The external façade of the station has been clad with almost 100 ETFE cushions that incorporate innovative matt “frosting” and print technology transforming the “simple” facade into an interactive LED media façade! Movements from the surrounding area are projected onto the façade delivering impressive light shows.

The internal façade of the station hall combines a stretched PTFE / glass fabric that is equipped with a sophisticated integral tensioning system.

The refurbishment of this historic building with its beautiful ironwork proved a veritable challenge; it required a considered approach to harmoniously unite the new with the old. The Central Station has re-defined itself as a gateway to the city of Chemnitz. It is now a bright and airy modern hub housing local and long distance trains under one roof.

The award ceremony will take place on November 27, 2018 in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
